I want to be very clear:
Posts like this are not about— woo-hoo this podcast is so great woo-hoo.
I fully understood, when creating this project, that even having the word D E A T H being associated with it was a challenge. (try asking to hang fliers about productions with the word Death in it— shopkeepers were as thrilled as when the word was Vagina for The Vagina Monologues!)
But I followed my heart because I knew we needed to be more open and experience the inevitability of Death with the honor it deserved— that it helps us live more expansively.
Interfacing with the medical field throughout my adult life, I was blown away at how death-avoidant that space can be & this translates into the way many people walk in the world.
So I share the reception of the project and feedback here & on the website in case there is one person that might benefit from it but is thinking— nooo, it’s too scary to go there.
When I started this project 2.5 years ago I was so prepared for it just to simmer on a back burner. But we’ve just hit 3000 people on Instagram that follow it and our podcast has had well over 20,000 listens.
So yes, some people are open and longing for these conversations— the door just needs to be opened a bit & a welcome mat put out.
Out storytellers report the process being hugely beneficial for them & our listeners frequently tell me how they heard just the right chat at the right time. And it’s such an amazing practice of sitting with someone’s deep & tender sharing within your own controlled environment.
I sincerely believe we are better humans for opening to Death and with a big wave of death positive content & deathworkers & traditional/alternative practices coming to the fore there are many places out there where these conversations happen.
I just need to occasionally remind people that it’s ok to peek inside and see what’s on offer.
As always— thanks for being here. 🖤
