Thank you, WorldFest, and happy 53rd birthday!
The festival's 2020 events are postponed but in true filmmaker-friendly fashion, the organizers have announced award winners. @findingharoldfilm won a Silver Remi Award in the category of Dramatic Original Shorts, and See You Tomorrow won the Platinum Remi Award for Directing.
After more than half a century, @worldfesthiff is one of the longest-running festivals in the world. When it started, the moon landing had not happened yet, Civil Rights Act had only recently been passed, and the median cost of a new house in the USA was $24,900 and annual household income $8,600 (source: census.gov) while average cost of tuition and fees for a four-year degree at public university was $366 total (yes, you read that right - source: nces.ed.gov)
WorldFest discovered with their very first award: Steven Spielberg (Amblin’), George Lucas (THX1138), Ang Lee (Pushing Hands), Ridley Scott (The 1984 Apple TVC), the Coen Brothers (Blood Simple), Oliver Stone (Salvador), David Lynch (The Grandmother), Randal Kleiser (Peege), Brian de Palma (Sisters), John Lee Hancock (Vaya Con Dios), Guillermo del Toro (Cronos) and more.
So Happy Birthday, Worldfest Houston, wishing you many more.
Congratulations to our teams and thank you to everyone who supported these projects.
