“How it is that animals understand things I do not know, but it is certain that they do understand. Perhaps there is a language which is not made of words and everything in the world understands it. Perhaps there is a soul hidden in everything and it can always speak, without even making a sound, to another soul."
― Frances Hodgson Burnett
My soul often needs great care. It’s been bent. Broken. Stressed. It always bounces back. But some days, some days, it just needs more. I seek what feeds my soul. Mostly it’s my Oliver or the rest of the pack of pups we have. They are each amazing in their own way and I love being amongst them, learning their kind and loving ways.
Also, my soul yearns to help others. I do that most often by volunteering at our local animal shelter. A brief explanation of that volunteering:
Today we had a love of a soul dog visit today through the Doggy Day Out program at our local shelter. With this program, you can essentially “check out” a dog for the day and hang out with them- hike, go for walks, go around town etc and show them a great day away from the shelter. This also helps the shelter know how a dog is away from the shelter. I have had many dogs go from wall flowers or anxious at the shelter to amazing and loving at my house! I have been doing this for the last two years! Out of about 20 some dogs, I only adopted two from the program lol! Now my pack helps these dogs have an amazing day! We take lots of pictures and post all over social media hoping to find these dogs their forever home!
So today, Fruity came for a visit! Often bully breed dogs are difficult to get adopted due to their stigma. Fruity is a compact medium size pup that I know will be judged based on how she looks and not her amazing personality! This lovely soul of a dog was so happy to have a fun day away from the shelter! She wagged her little tail, greeted all my pups enthusiastically and enjoyed many romps in our yard! She also thoroughly enjoyed the massage I gave her on the couch! She still paced a lot and could tell had so much anxiety about her situation, but you could see her love and happiness.
