📝 Try washing them away with a steady stream of water.
📝 Clean remaining individuals using a cotton swab & isopropyl alcohol (70%).
- Insecticidal Soaps (homemade + organic)
📝 Spray (every 5-7 days) on both sides of leaves, around base, & all over plant.
📝 Apply later in evening & water early in morning to avoid #sunburn on your leaves.
- Horticultural Oils— Neem Oil
😱 Neem Oil disrupts growth & development of mealies AND it’s non toxic to honey bees & other beneficial insects! But sometimes...
😨 Immature #mealies wedge themselves in tight spaces (like stem crotches & leaf folds) where washing pesticides can’t reach them!
Alternative for GREENHOUSE infestations only:
*NOT appropriate for indoor/houseplant treatment!*
Introduce a natural enemy!!
🦟 Parasitic wasps are known to attack mealies!
🐞 Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, the MEALY DESTROYER, a small lady beetle!
📝 These can be purchased commercially— you’ll need 2-8 adult beetles per plant.
Persistent Infestation? 😠
📝 Prune out heavily infested parts, but dispose of cuttings immediately to avoid cross-contamination, & continue treatment.
STILL an infestation after 3-4 weeks of active treatment? Root infestations cans be difficult to control, it might be time to consider ditching the plant & replacing it. ☹️🥺
May the odds be ever in your favor #plantlovers !
