When I was in third year of uni, I was lucky enough to land a placement with a major Scottish sporting organisation. It was such an amazing experience & it really cemented my passion for all things comms.
Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed my placement experience, there are definitely some things 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆:
💫 Ask lots of questions! As my colleagues at the time told me, there is no such thing as a stupid question! Asking questions will help you to understand what you are doing & why you are doing it.
💫 Push yourself & get involved whenever you can! I wish I would have taken this advice as there were a few experiences I missed out on because I was too nervous. Pushing yourself can be daunting, but the sense of achievement & accomplishment you feel after is soo worth it!
💫 Don’t take criticism to heart! It is easy to feel disappointed and fed up when you feel like everything you do is wrong. However, it is important not to take constructive criticism to heart and rather use it to improve your skills and learn. (Bear in mind, there is a difference between criticism and constructive criticism! If you feel that your manager is being critical without giving feedback or ways to improve then this is something you may want to address in order to get the most out of your learning experience)
💫 Network! Try to make as many connections as possible. This will help you in the future when you may need to reach out to these people for information, advice or opportunities. It is sooo important to maintain positive relationships with people, as how you treated them will be how they remember you.
