“Best way to look at yourself is through a viewfinder, not at a mirror.”
Today I want to tell a story about myself. I’ve been clicking photographs for a long time and was loving it to the core. Every time that I looked into the frame, time just stopped for me. It was like observing the moment that I am right in. The anticipation, the preparation, the execution and everything was just the zone for me. You got no choice other than accepting whatever is in front of you, watching how things change with time and although I knew it before that once a moment has passed it won’t ever come back, photography actually made me realize it. .
But a few years back I just lost it. All of a sudden. I lost the prospective, I didn’t know the ’why?’, I lost the feel. I couldn’t pick the camera up, it felt heavier than a mountain. It was like I lost my purpose. I thought it was over, I am done with it and moved on.
After trying other things that were totally not for me, I accidently opened the folder. And I saw some of the first photos I took, they knew me better than myself. They showed me who I am and what I am here for. They reminded me the reason why I started in the first place, they made the camera light as a feather again. I started looking at the world again in the weird way I did before. Every frame started to tell me a story that nobody else understood. The satisfaction of clicking the shutter, the involvement with the moment and the focus to keep hands steady no matter what, feeling your heartbeat between two clicks. Being grateful for just able to witness the moment and not caring about how good or bad the photo actually was and already thinking about the next one. It all came back. I met myself again. The good old me.
This is the power of photographs. I share a few of mine who really made me fall in love with photography then and now. This time just more passionately than ever.
