'Positive Mind, Positive Vibes, Positive Life'...but be realistic being a new Mum can also be complicated sometimes. Here are a few examples that I definitely remember experiencing after the birth of both my boys!
1)Am I doing this right? I remember thinking every other new Mum was crushing it, whilst I had that feeling of dread I wasn't.
2)Feelings of mixed emotions e.g. sadness, fear, joy, anger. I went through every colour of the rainbow, but they did settle eventually, when I found my routine and rhyme.
3)Not feeling that deep love connection? Being honest this didn't happen over night. But as I grew into my new role it came, that unconditional, protective love. So don't think you are less of a Mum if it takes time.
4)Breast-feeding woes. I got so engorged and cried for weeks and as for latching on, don't get me started. But like everything else I made it in the end with a lot of curled toes and practise.
5)Feeling frumpy and grumpy. 'Arh' I often looked like I had been dragged through a hedge backwards! 🤣
6)Sleep Envy. I would often glance at Daddy snoring his head off, oblivious to the fact that I was on my third night feed, and then give him a nudge in the side as if to say 'sorry did I wake you?'
7)Feeling lonely. Nights would seep into days and vice versa, getting out and about was key.
6)I want my Mum. Totally normal. After all Mum raised me, so she was bound to have some tricks and tips up her sleeve and boy did she 🥰
7)Connection with other new Mums. We all need Motherhood solidarity, if only to check out feeling (1).
8)Exercise, what do you mean exercise???? Even being in the industry it took time for me to get back, especially after my second one. I was fit before, healthy during but even so being 47 meant I had to be kind and only come back when I was ready. The above are just a few of the feelings new Mums can experience, they are perfectly normal plus it’s okay to ask for help.
