CLC MEMBER FEATURE: Hello! My name is Brandon (@brandonmouwofficial ) I was diagnosed as a Type I Juvenile Diabetic at the age of 3. Went through most of my life without issue until I had two kidney stones the size of my thumbnail in my left kidney. The stones left my kidney very damaged and kept turning septic. The doctors removed my kidney after 6 surgical attempts at getting the kidney working again. • The kidney removal turned me into a Brittle Hypoglycemic Diabetic. I was in a chronic state of low blood sugar. Was passing out regularly, found dead twice and brought back, got a Diabetic Alert Dog, and tried every different type of treatment that doctors could find to prevent the low blood sugars until one told me to have a pancreas-only transplant or I’d die. My body was simply shutting down and could no longer recover. I had to jump through many, many hoops and raise $250,000 to get on the transplant list. I got the call the day after Christmas in 2018 for my transplant. It was successful. • I’ve been through two bouts of organ rejection and constantly watching to see what it does. I only have one kidney and it’s in stage 3 failure from being a Diabetic for so long. And, recovering from chronic conditions of being a Type 1 Diabetic for 31 years. Not to mention the anti-rejection medication side effects…but it’s worth it compared to not being alive! • Any chronic illness sucks! But, I found that it is all about having the right attitude. For me, I am alive for a reason no matter the struggle. I get out and try new and fun things like scuba diving, golfing, and making new memories with friends and family. Life is too short. Very few things in life are easy, but it’s worth the fight. Don’t be afraid to keep on kickin’!!!
