When it comes to issues like racism and #blacklivesmatter , one of the great ways we can put our money where our mouth is, is in the support of ethically, anti-racist brands - and even better, in the support of #blackownedbrands and #blackownedbusinesses (as well as, of course, brands and businesses owned by other non-Black poc!). Because of this, I do not support brands like J*ffree Star and T*o Faced, because of their problematic behaviours and statements. (If you know of any other brands I should steer clear of, please let me know!)
.@juviasplace is a fantastic Black-owned brand with amazing products. Their palettes are no stranger to the make-up community on Instagram, for their beautiful concepts and even better quality. I especially love that almost all of their palettes have African themes, as I grew up in Africa and consider it my "home". My favourite palettes are the Tribe and Nomad palettes, because I'm a sucker for greens and "weird colours" of all kinds; but I also have a soft spot for the Zulu palette, because it's the community I'm most familiar with, having grown up in South Africa.
To wrap this lengthy post up: Juvia's Place is fast becoming one of my favourite brands and the one I own the most products from. As it stands, I've only tried their eyeshadow and blush palettes, but I intend to try out their foundation and concealer once my current supply runs out. This is my current palette collection, though I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of the brand new Wahala palette 😍🙏 which I will post pics of when it arrives.
In the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and many others, it can be hard to feel optimistic about the state of the world. However, brands like Juvia's Place are reminders that there is still much (Black) beauty in the world for us to appreciate and support ✊✊✊
