The world seems to be in chaos and getting more sick each day. And yet it’s never looked or felt more beautiful outside. The air has never felt better on my skin, the sun has never shone more warmly on my face. The nature that surrounds us is gorgeous, thriving and fully alive. The trees seem to sing as you walk by them: “There you are! Welcome! We are so glad to see you and so looking forward to spending this time with you!”
Once we are able to freely roam the sidewalks and clog the freeways again, will we remember how deeply connected we are to the trees that have always been there for us? How much they feed us, emotionally and spiritually? How their beauty flourishes stedfast despite the horrors afflicting humankind?
The act of going for a walk has adopted a new significance — no longer is it an everyday, ho-hum occurrence; it is a rare, ecstatic voyage, a true event to be savored. We must remember this. Sometimes when really terrible things happen, really beautiful things emerge from the wreckage. There is a Tree Renaissance happening right now. This awareness and appreciation must be our new normal. We need it to be and our planet needs it to be.
Stay home and stay safe, absolutely. If and when you do venture out into the world, though, be it for supplies or a little fresh air, take a moment to share with the trees around you. Your soul will thank you.
