During the last week of July (2020), I had the lucky opportunity to take some of my annual holiday/leave to do one of Australia's "Great Walks" with my partner, @luenwarneke , two of our friends -- @thijstor3000 and Felicity, and their 18-month son, Pimm (legends!). During this part of the trip, we were largely self-supported, aside from being able to refill our water at every campsite (but treating/filtering was essential), and hiked six days -- totalling roughly 100km -- and camped five nights. The temperatures got down to below 0°C a couple of the nights, but the days were warm (but not too hot), hiking was easy, and the views were spectacular. There was even space/weight for a couple luxuries like wine and chocolate! 😉🍫🍷 It was also just really nice (and very, very much needed) to disconnect from technology, social media, traffic, work, and the other day-to-day responsibilities and just enjoy nature, the sounds and sites of wildlife, fresh air, each other, campfires, and the quiet serenity of putting one foot in front of the other.
Carnarvon Gorge is about an 11-hour drive from Townsville and somewhat 'hidden' in the rugged ranges of Queensland's central highlands. As you will see, this area features towering sandstone cliffs, vibrantly-coloured gorges (they are truly gorgeous), diverse flora and fauna, and some of the most pristine and remarkable Aboriginal rock art I've ever seen!#wanderstories #hiking #camping #doitfortheview #canyons #gorges #nature #greatwalk #naturelover #naturetherapy #getoutdoors #getoutside #freshair #wanderlust #adventurecouple #travel #nationalparks #qldparks #queensland #carnarvongorge #australia
