The crew from Southam were called out to a small fire yesterday. Unfortunately due to the very dry ground, the fire quickly spread and when the crew arrived they found a large fire involving a pile of logs, branches and tree stumps.
It was all well alight on arrival, and flames were approx 6 feet above the height of the pile. The fire was already spreading across the dry grass and shrubbery to a nearby hedge and tree line.
The crew acted quickly to prevent the immediate spread of the fire using hoses and a hose reel with a misting lance. The misting lance allows for much more efficient water use and enables crews to leave the lance in a specific location to stop further fire spread whilst they tackle the fire from different angles.
Please remember that the ground is tinder dry at the moment and weather reports suggest this is likely to last some time. So please don’t light bonfires and don’t use disposable barbecues on the ground. What would initially be a small fire could quickly get out of control causing significant fire damage to parkland, wildlife or even your own property.#warksfrs #community #firefighters #fire #southam #branches #bonfire #incident #hotweather #safety #mistinglance
