We braved the outside world to get groceries this morning and I treated myself to a lovely little bouquet of flowers at Trader Joe’s! 💐 They bring me a little cheer and happiness.
Can we give a shout out to the retail workers who are also being brave by going to work and keeping the grocery stores and pharmacies open so we can still get fresh food, prescriptions other products when we need them during this pandemic.
I tried to thank everyone one of them that we encountered today. ♥️ From the men and women watching the store fronts and letting one person enter the store as one person exited, to the staff stocking the shelves, the cashiers and the people sacking our groceries. Thank you for being willing to go to work and keeping the stores open.
In reality where we live, so far we have just been mildly inconvenienced. Yes, shopping takes longer with waiting in lines to get in, as the number of shoppers is limited at a time in each store. We can’t find exactly what we want each time but there are other options to choose from. Beans, and rice are hard to come, but we still have some in our pantry. We are retired so our income hasn’t been affected. Our social life has stopped but we still text and talk to friends on the phone and FaceTime with family.
We have one family member with a newly diagnosed medical condition who has yet to see a doctor in person and all medical tests have been postponed for now. That’s a little unsettling but phone consults with the doctor are working for now.
I have had the realization that I have taken so many of our daily privileges for granted. Being able to freely move through my daily life, shop when and where I want, receive quality medical care when needed, buy any kind of food I want, enjoy entertainment events, gather with my friends and family.
Never in my 60 years of life have I been afraid to go out into my community for something as simple as a bouquet of flowers. Yet today I am left wondering if today’s shopping trip exposed me to the Covid 19 virus. Did I avoid touching my face while out, did I wash my hands good enough and long when I got home? Part of me wants to hibernate until this is all over!
