Day 3 of #100daysoffeelingitout.
My @khadipapers Fat Book (so cute!) and goache paints arrived for today, yay!
Goache paint was the medium I was most excited to experiment with again for this project, as I don’t think I have since college (10 years ago!). They were always my favourite for their versatility, being good for both mixing/thinning with water but also giving such solid and smooth colour when you want it too.
Weirdly though, tonight I used them exactly like I’d use watercolours and watered them right down, when I had in mind to use them more boldly. I look forward to doing that another time instead.
Things that came up for me as I painted:
My frugality with the use of paint and not wanting to waste it making something shit.
Reminding myself that I’m learning and it’s okay to experiment with the paints and that I don’t have to make something amazing.
I also wanted to stop this painting very early in to the 45 mins or so that I spent on it in total because I didn’t love it. Normally I probably would just stop, but then I remembered I have to post this for the project! ...Keep going. So I did. That accountability and honouring of the commitment is SO valuable for me, because then I did keep going, and even started to like the picture I was making a bit more. Overcoming the tendency to stop or move on to something else the moment perfectionism or self doubt creeps in is so healing and powerful.
Finally, I also struggled a bit with ‘what to draw’ today, and wondered if the freedom of my theme may need some refining or some structure to support me in doing this and enjoying it. I’ll sleep on it.
Thanks #the100dayproject !
