So, we are home. 💙
Last night was LONG and ROUGH. Harvey consistently screamed for Morgan while pointing to the door and window (asking to leave). Every time he was given medication, he fought us and flailed, and then cried for 45 minutes or more after. He flat out refused all liquids offered to him (but thankfully was on IV fluids). From 3:30-5:30 he cried for dada and I was absolutely helpless. The nurse offered to help me take him on a walk around our floor, so we did, and that lifted his spirits so high. But as soon as we returned to his room, he was inconsolable. Everyone agreed that he just wanted to be home.
We finally got some sleep from 5:30 to 7, when I was awakened by someone from our surgical team. We discussed the fact that Harvey hadn’t made his fluid goal but also that he desperately wanted out of here. I told him I couldn’t do another night like that alone. He said he would talk to Dr. Fisher about letting us discharge, and a couple hours later the nurse was bringing me the paperwork. 😭😭😭😭😭😭 Harvey slept the whole way home and then was given a bath to get the surgery gunk off. We offered fluids many times and he’d take a sip here and there but ultimately refused, but the stinker was chugging his bath water. 🥴 If only water had calories!
At this point we just need our boy to drink so we don’t land right back in the hospital. (He is on an open cup blended diet for 3 weeks.)
Thank you all for your love and support through all of this!! I have read and appreciated every single message that’s come through. You’re all so amazing. 💙
