Today’s #wcw is Dr. Judy Selerno, a strong, brave, and selfless woman who is dedicating her skills during these confusing times. Judy heard that New York State health officials were looking for retired physicians to volunteer in the COVID-19 crisis... and the moment she heard the news, she came out of retirement and did not hesitate to offer her help. As an older woman, she is among those at higher risk of catching the fast spreading illness, but feeling healthy as ever, Judy went to work. To me, this shows true bravery and love towards your community and those around you during this difficult time. We are all in this together and I want to thank doctors like Judy and other healthcare workers, food workers, sanitation teams, grocery story clerks, police officers and anyone who is putting themselves at risk to be there for the broader community. We thank you Judy, your dedication is not ignored and your work is so greatly appreciated. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there
Today's #wcw is @sashaallenmusic. I 1st saw her perform in the movie "Camp" back in 2003 and her voice spoke to me in a way I desperately needed. Sasha started her career as a backing vocalist for icons like Alicia Keys, John Legend, and Usher and went on to perform for world tours. She even joined the Rolling Stones touring band. After her debut in Camp, she starred on broadway’s rival of Hair as Dionne. I became a superfan and found out she was performing at a spot in the Village in NYC called Cafe Wha with a live band. The band was rocking but they kept Sasha singing background for what felt like forever. Growing panicky that I'd come across the country and wasn't gonna get to hear this national treasure sing, I kindly asked the manager if the bandleader could let Sasha close out the night. It was hellllllla late mind you but I didnt care. Finally, late late night they passed the mic over and Sasha TOOK OVER. She is legit my #wce she's someone I've always rooted for and wanted to win. In these times I feel its important to S/O everyone that has reached us when we needed it most. Sasha thank you for your talent, your grace, your beauty, your spirit and using your gift to bring joy & healing to so many. And thank you for being so kind that night so many years ago. I'll never forget it. Let us lift her up in the light of goodness and hold her there.
