I’m back! And ready to share my most recent adventures with you instagram friends.
On the first few days of 2020 I set out on a journey of a lifetime that landed me on this dirt road in a remote area of South Sudan. After a long 25 hour flight that started on a frigidly cold day in Toronto and was filled with the excitement of luggage mishaps and travel delays I landed in Nairobi, Kenya. There I spent time with community builders, educators and philanthropist who are investing their time and resources in supporting education for hundreds of children in Nairobi and beyond. Its exactly the people and community I crave and value.
I also visited with a number of the kids I’ve met on previous trips to Kakuma refugee camp. Hearing their stories and seeing how far they have come as a result of the generosity of individuals who invested in their education was awe inspiring and left me full of hope for the future.
Eventually, I boarded a plane to Juba, South Sudan to join one of my dearest friends, @thuchmadhier and his fiancé, Christine as they prepared for their marriage. .
For me this trip was about friendship, learning and pushing the limits of what I thought was possible. It was fraught with challenges, full of unexpected obstacles and without question opened up new worlds of possibility beyond my imagination. I was able to experience the sweet smiles and warm spirits of the South Sudanese communities I was welcomed into from Juba to Thiet. I made new friends in Kenya and was left with a renewed sense of purpose and vision. A very good start to 2020 I’d say! I’m looking forward to sharing here more on the places I visited, the amazing people I met along the way and the important work being done in South Sudan and Kenya - And finally, why you should care about all of this. #lovealwayswins #southsudan #juba #thiet #kenya #nairobi #educationforall #waterislife #iamarainmaker #friendship #purpose #courage
